Mike Silverman

Mike Silverman, Managing Director of SFS Ltd. is a uniquely experienced forensic scientist, strategic adviser and programme manager with a record of achievement in senior management and scientific advisory roles. His career has focused on the strategic development of forensic science in the Criminal Justice System (CJS) both in the UK and internationally.

Mike has a very wide experience of forensic science both in the laboratory and in operational crime scene investigation in the UK and overseas. He is a highly experienced project manager with a proven track record of successful delivery for central government departments (Home Office, DFID, FCO) as well as government agencies (such as the Forensic Science Service), the police, European Union (AGIS projects), European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) and further abroad (Middle East, Ethiopia, Algeria, BVI). He has led teams of forensic experts in the design and delivery of successful strategies, and change management projects within the public sector. He brings particular expertise in the introduction of quality systems, policies and protocols in a wide range of projects. These projects have included European wide systems and IT based solutions. Mike is also a specialist in forensic biological techniques, including DNA and blood pattern analysis.

About

Before becoming a consultant, Mike set up and acted as the first Forensic Science Regulator, and has worked at a senior level for the Home Office, on the Executive Board of the Forensic Science Service, as Scientific Support Director for Kent Police and as Deputy Head of the Sexual Offences Department in the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science Laboratory. Mike has worked closely with many organisations within the CJS, including the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), Crown Prosecution Service, government departments, police forces, Attorney General’s Office, Coroners Association, forensic science providers, United Kingdom Accreditation Service, Office of Government Commerce, universities, British Council, Forensic Science Society, Council for Registration of Forensic Practitioners, Police Federation, Royal College of Pathologists, British Association of Forensic Medicine, as well as overseas governments, ENFSI and law enforcement agencies. For three years Mike held the position of Chairman of ENFSI expert group on Scenes of Crime.

Mike is currently a Senior Adviser and Strategic Forensic Science Consultant to Torchlight Group.
